2nd March: Wow, that was great fun but tiring!
Congratulations to the crew and cast of our latest project, DV Mission 2026. The task was to make a short (2 minute) film with the theme of pirates. Everyone chipped in with ideas and we came up with a great script on Friday. Luckily, Saturday was a lovely day and we were able to do all the filming in Southsea, Old Portsmouth and the Hard. Sunday was editing day and it went right to the wire to reduce all the footage down to 2 minutes, but we did it in the end. Fingers crossed for next weekend.
27th February: Rain stops play but can't keep us down
Unfortunately, all the rain we have been having in January and February has put a temporary stop on the finishing of Old Souls. Fingers crossed for better weather in March! But, don't worry, that doesn't stop us from keeping busy. We have entered the DV Mission 48 hour film making competition starting today. They give you a theme at 5pm and you have to write and produce a short 2 minute film by Sunday at 5pm. No pressure then! Fingers crossed it goes well and you never know, we may include it with the premiere of Lessons Learnt on the 18th March.
10th February: A sad day with one of our classmates leaving us
It was our last day in the classroom for the filmmaking. Unfortunately, we will probably have to meet in a coffee shop somewhere to finish off making the films. Sadly, we said goodbye to Effe, who is moving back to Las Vegas with her family. She will be sadly missed, but may open up our American office for Tuesday Club Studios. We might go international! Of course we had to have coffee and cake.
27th January: Film preview, 2 birthdays, a sad goodbye & a fish & chip supper
This film business is all glamour! We all met in the evening for our own premiere of the film Lessons Learnt in a lovely fish & chip shop in Eastney. Very impressed. The bloopers afterwards were very funny. 2 birthdays with cake and a sad goodbye to Effe who is going back to America. We have now added the trailer for this film to the website, together with the trailer for the main film, Old Souls. Just waiting for the date for the WORLD PREMIERE of Lessons Learnt.
20th January: A day out at Casemates for coffee, cake and catch up
Yes, today we all met up at Casemates. Here we saw the poster for Lessons Learnt together with a selection of trailers for the film and we all decided on which one we are going to use. We have also started filming the class members for a documentary film about the experience of making the films.
13th January: Back to the classroom to see the edit of Lessons Learnt
It was exciting to get back into the classroom today to see the near final edit of the 2nd film we are making Lessons Learnt. We were blown away at how good it was and a very special thanks to Chris and Billy for all their hard work. It has now gone to have the music added and the final version should be with us very shortly. Watch this space for premiere details.
12th January: Spending the day at Fort Nelson filming 3 scenes
Fort Nelson kindly opened the fort for us today to let us film 3 more scenes for Old Souls. Luckily, the weather had improved slightly over the previous week and whilst cold, it wasn't freezing thankfully. We were kept supplied with hot drinks all day, together with donuts, cakes and biscuits.
4th January: Back to filming for Old Souls on a chilly January day
After a short break for Christmas and the New Year, it was back to filming various scenes for Old Souls. This included a nightclub scene, a beach scene (the things we do for art) and lastly a scene at the Hard in Portsmouth. Great fun had by everyone, and onto Fort Nelson next Monday (12th) to shoot 3 more scenes. Busy, busy!
16th December: Mince pies, chocolates and biscuits
It was our last day before the Christmas break and we had a first viewing of the initial edit of the ghost/horror film and we were all blown away by how good it was. We then had to do a few retakes and then tucked into the food and coffee. Premiere in January for this one and then finishing filming of Old Souls. Oh, and we might make another one in February for a competition.
9th December: More spooky goings-on in the classroom
Week 2 of filming our second film and I think we have got it all done. The director, Chris, and the film editor, Billy, say that it is looking good already. Looking forward to seeing the first proper edit next week.
2nd December: You won't believe what we are doing now
We can't continue filming Old Souls until the beginning of January 2026, so guess what we have decided to do. We are only going to make another short film using the classroom and students as actors. Filming started today on what I would describe as a ghost story. Spooky, but fun.
25th November: Dressing up and more editing highlights
Back to college this week, where we received our t-shirts (look fantastic), saw further edit of the first day's filming, fixed some dates for filming more scenes and did some dressing up to see how uniforms would look. A very productive day.
11th November: The first edit, t-shirts & coffee
Today, Chris and Billy showed us the first edit from the first day of filming and it is great to start seeing our project coming together. No college next week as Chris is away with the England Fencing Team and we all wish him good luck and hope he brings back a medal!
4th November: Rushes, Fort Nelson and coffee!
Today was another visit to Fort Nelson to tie down some of the locations where we will be filming. We have provisionally pencilled in the 15th December at this location. Billy joined us and showed us some of the rushes from last Saturday. Very impressed! Of course, we had to finish with a coffee.
1st November: Who had the clapper board?
As you will see from the home page, we started filming Old Souls today and everyone was happy with the progress we have made. We are all looking forward to seeing the first lot of rushes when we meet up tomorrow (Tuesday). As you can see, they still found time for a cup of tea!
28th October: Half term, but we kept on working
It may have been half term and the college was closed, but we kept on working, albeit over a cup of coffee at Casemates. We start filming on Saturday and organised the props for the shoot and allocated our jobs. Whilst there, we also had another look at one of the locations for future filming. We have also redesigned the logos and these will be changed shortly.
21st October: Dressing up day
I bet you can't guess what one scene will involve? It was dressing up day for some and starting to finalise plans. We have fixed our first day of filming for the 1st November. Also, we have now decided to make a short film in the classroom to learn all the different skills needed for the next stage.
14th October: Looking for more locations
Another busy morning out and about looking for locations. We managed to finalise quite a few places and were lucky to find an alternative site for one of the main scenes. We ended our morning having a lovely cup of coffee in Coffee#1 in Palmerston Road.
7th October: Back in the classroom today
Back to the classroom today. Read through the re-write of a couple of scenes, had the head shots done for this site, worked on props list, discussed soundtrack music and trying to fill all the acting roles. Oh, and there is going to be a wedding scene!
30th September: Out and about looking at locations
We have been out on our travels looking at various locations to film and are pleased to have secured about half the venues so far. It's not too arduous — we always try and fit in a visit to a coffee shop for refreshments. This week, it was Casemates in Hilsea. Back to the classroom next week.
9–23rd September: And so it starts
We have had a number of meetings now and have agreed a script, have started looking at locations, working on props and costumes, drunk coffee (the best bit) and we are now going out on location to finalise our selection of places to film and hopefully visit the odd coffee shop to discuss our progress.
